Meet the author: ReShonda Tate Billingsley

Saturday, March 6: meet Essense bestselling author ReShonda Tate Billingsley, author of The Pastor's Wife and The Devil is a Lie. Book signing to follow. 2-4pm, Main Library auditorium. Meet illustrator Harry Bliss at the Great Big Book Bash

Saturday, Feb. 20: Bring your kids to the library for a knee-slapping, laugh-out-loud funny event that will spark their creativity! Bliss is best known for his illustrations in books like A Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin and A Fine, Fine School by Sharon Creech. In his presentations, Mr. Bliss will explain how he turns stories into art and then he will teach you how to create your own art. Presentations are at 10:30am and 2:30pm in the Main Library auditorium. Tickets are $5 in advance (available now at all library branches) and $8 at the door. Call (256) 532-5950 for more info.

Meet local author Frank Griffin

Tuesday, Feb. 9: Author Frank Griffin will speak about and sign copies of his memoir, Touched by Fire, an account of growing up in the 1950s and 1960s in a family of Alabama migrant farm workers. Frank's father, Johnny Frank Griffin, was knifed in 1954, a day after he'd told a Phenix City grand jury of what he'd seen in the moments after Attorney General-designate Albert Patterson's assassination. 10am - noon, Main Library, second floor public lounge. Chinese New Year Celebration: Year of the Tiger

Saturday, Feb. 13: Family-friendly event with lots of activities for kids. See Chinese music, art and dance as well as martial arts demonstrations, fashion shows, and a wide variety of children's activities. Many of Huntsville's Chinese restaurants will provide food for the evening. Tickets are $15 for adults (age 16 and up), $10 for teens (ages 11-15), and free for kids 10 and under. Tickets on sale now at the Bailey Cove Branch Library, Madison Public Library, and Main Library Administrative Office (3rd floor, 9am-5pm weekdays only). Call (256) 532-5950 for more info.

Egyptology in the Valley of the Kings

Monday mornings: A series of six lectures by Dr. Bill Stephens focuses on the hidden and mysterious tombs of the Pharaohs that lie in the Valley of the Kings. Lectures are free to the public.
